Testing metered-dose inhalers
A semi-automated solution to test the firing mechanisms of pharmaceutical 'one shot' pressurised metered dose inhaler canisters has been developed
A semi-automated testing solution to test the firing mechanisms of pharmaceutical 'one shot' pressurised metered dose inhaler canisters (MDIs) has now been developed by Lloyd Instruments The first dedicated testing solution of its kind, the MDI test system ensures canisters deliver the correct dosage of drugs without any danger of valve failure

Innovative low force universal test machine
Ametek is launching its innovative low force universal test machine and non contact Infra Red Extensometer equipment for test precision on stand 8030 at Inspex 2001
Aimed at MDI canister manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies, it reduces testing turnaround times more than any other conventional testing system.
New Nexygen MT v4.5 control software, also included, features powerful new security and audit trails which is vital for medical data auditing.
Easy to operate, the MDI test system consists of a special MDI test jig fitted to the company's 5kN LRXPlus universal testing machine.

Ametek has launched the LFPlus single column universal testing machine designed for material testing and force measurement applications up to 1kN (225 lbf)
Materials testing software
Ametek's Nexygen FM software, launched to coincide with a new universal testing machine, is described as an easy to use materials testing package that increases routine test output
Once an MDI canister is loaded into the jig, the user simply pushes the start button on the detector unit to start the test.
Once complete, results are automatically recorded for analysis and reporting.
For operator protection, a PVC shield is fitted with an automatic lock mechanism that must be engaged.
For large scale tests, the software includes a Batch Tester utility.
Ondio application builder software, also included, is used to create individual test set-ups.
New Nexygen MT v4.5 software offers full control of the instrument, with detailed analysis of results and flexible reporting.
New security features on version 4.5 now mean operators must login at all times.
Audit tracking is now possible since all details of user logins and logouts, and every modification or action conducted on each test are recorded in full.
Automatic saving and archiving ensures no data is ever lost, and report print outs now include the data, time, user ID, system ID, location ID or other supervisor defined parameter.
The MDI test system is already being installed in the quality operations of leading pharmaceutical companies.
Versatility means this system is adaptable to suit a particular testing requirement.
MDIs are one of the most sophisticated and complicated drug delivery systems.
Typically, they are aerosol dispensers consisting of a metal or glass container with a valve assembly and actuator.
Administering the correct dosage of drugs is of paramount importance to any pharmaceutical company, as well as the patient.
Incorrect firing or valve breakdown could lead to 'continuous streaming' of drug delivery.
Testing the delivery mechanism is just one of many factors that must be checked during production, which is made easy with the new MDI Test system. Request a free brochure from Lloyd Instruments ...
