New accredited testing service to guard against banned substances including nandrolone and ephedrine in sports supplements

HFL has launched the UK's first accredited testing service for drug contamination of sports supplements The new tests will protect both athletes and the supplement industry by detecting a broad range of IOC banned drugs including nandrolone and ephedrine, across a wide range of supplement formulations

Positive drug tests of athletes receive extensive publicity and in many cases the result is blamed on drug contamination of supplements.

Until now the supplement industry could do little to counter this argument as very few companies have access to the sophisticated laboratory equipment required to guarantee product integrity.

HFL's chief executive David Hall commented: "We are delighted to be able to offer the UK's first accredited drug testing service for supplements and believe this is a positive step for both the industry and consumers".

HFL claims to be the world's largest anti-doping laboratory and conducts drug screening for sports such as horseracing and dog racing, in addition to extensive analytical support of new drug development for major pharmaceutical companies.

The new service sits alongside quality assurance programmes already well established at HFL for animal feed.

The analytical methods have been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (Ukas) under ISO 17025, an internationally recognised quality standard for analytical testing.
