Metabolic monitoring in lab animals
Combination of metabolic and activity monitoring systems permits measurement of metabolic rate and animal locomotor activity simultaneously, allowing correlation between activity
The Metabolic Monitoring System from Harvard Apparatus is ideal for measurement of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production in lab animals The system uses an open circuit calorimetry technique
It is said to be very flexible, making the size of the animal immaterial.
The data obtained can be analysed using the Windows based statistical packages supplied with the system.
The combination of the Metabolic Monitor and the Harvard Apparatus Activity Monitoring System permits measurement of metabolic rate and animal locomotor activity simultaneously, thus allowing correlation between activity.
Up to eight animal cages can be monitored simultaneously.
An animal is placed in the cage and the lid is lightly shut to provide a partial seal.
The Metabolic Monitoring System works well with the motorised air tight treadmill for mice and rat available separately from Harvard Apparatus.
