Invention consists of a tube or column such as a pipette tip that has a chromatographic or separations material coated on the inside wall without obstructing the centre channel or forming a plug

Harvard Apparatus has been granted a European patent number 1268065 entitled Surface coated housing for sample preparation This 'revolutionary' new tip concept eliminates all backpressure caused by frits, filters or plugs so that an accurate amount can be drawn up and delivered

Also the lack of backpressure makes manual operation easy to perform.

The elimination of frits, meshes, etc, eliminates surfaces that could non-specifically absorb proteins and other compounds.

This new technology is ideal for desalting, buffer exchanges, surfactant removal and concentration of molecules like proteins, DNA, RNA, cytochrome C, albumin and more.

Harvard Apparatus is selling pipette tips based on this technology under the commercial name of PrepTip.

The first support material available is based on C18; silica with other supports to be available shortly.
