Novartis is among the first companies to implement ActivityBase on AIX.
The combination provides a robust and scalable platform for the company's extensive multi-site installation of ActivityBase.
"Managing large volumes of biological, chemical and analytical information at a global level requires a robust computing infrastructure," said Neil Kipling, chairman and CEO of IDBS.
"When Novartis asked us to port ActivityBase to the IBM eServer platform, running AIX, we immediately appreciated the importance and value of this transition for many of our major customers.
Our collaboration with IBM is an integral part of our strategy for delivering well integrated, scalable data management solutions for the life sciences." The Novartis Analytical Laboratory Information Management System (Novalis) has been developed within ActivityBase by IDBS to provide a seamless chemical, biological and spectral data management system for analytical chemists throughout the organisation.
The system enables scientists to capture spectral data directly from their analytical chemistry instruments and manage it within the ActivityBase software environment, providing a single, up-to-date and integrated view on analytical chemistry data across the enterprise.
"The availability of IDBS's ActivityBase on AIX is great news for our mutual customers," said Anne-Marie Derouault, director, alliances and distribution channel management, IBM Life Sciences.
"AIX delivers a powerful and highly flexible Unix operating system for R and D operations.
The combined ActivityBase and AIX solution offers a high-performance environment for scientists and researchers to integrate a broad range of chemical data quickly and efficiently.".
