Introducing the new system to food industry executives at a Food Research Association meeting, Dr Mike Durbin, Igen's Industrial Product Manager said, "The Intelligent system provides the user with an automated, walk-away format dedicated to the detection and reporting of the four most important pathogens that threaten food safety in the UK." The easy-to-use system combines the benefits of pathogen detection with sample handling and software that reports positive or negative results automatically for samples in a standard format.
"We believe that the Intelligent System represents the most sensitive pathogen detection system for the food testing market," said Graham Thompson, Igen's European Business Manager.
The introduction of the Intelligent system to the industrial food testing market marks the first commercial application of Igen's M1 product line, based on the company's proprietary Origen technology.
The M1 product line has multiple applications and will serve as the basis for instruments in additional markets, including biodefence, life science research, industrial and clinical diagnostics.
The Intelligent instrument is designed to supersede the current Origen 1.5 Analyser.
Igen Europe now operates out of new facilities in Witney, Oxfordshire which serve as Igen's European sales, marketing and customer service headquarters.
The newly opened building offers advanced technology services and will enhance Igen's marketing and sales initiatives in Europe, including its ability to provide research and custom reagent services within the newly equipped laboratory.
Igen recently announced several strategic initiatives expanding its market reach in Europe, including an agreement with LabForce AG to collaborate on the sale of Igen's Origen products to the life science research market in Switzerland.
Igen has also recently signed an agreement with Fisher Scientific to collaborate on the sale of Igen's ORIgen products to the life science research markets in the United Kingdom.
