Waters and Ionalytics sign agreement to support ion filtering instrument to enhance performance of mass spectrometers

Waters and Ionalytics have signed a partnership agreement that allows Waters to market, sell and support the Ionalytics Selectra as a front-end instrument to the Waters Micromass mass spectrometry systems The partnership combines the accuracy of the Waters Micromass MS systems with the dynamic ion-filtering capability of the Selectra to facilitate research requirements and accelerate drug discovery programs

The Ionalytics Selectra enhances performance capabilities of mass spectrometers by providing an additional dimension of ion separation.

It is based on high field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (Faims) technology that utilises differences in an ion's mobility under conditions of high and low electric field strengths.

The outcome is clearer analytical results provided by reduced chemical background noise, separation of isobaric interferences, and improved detection limits in LC/MS applications.

"The Selectra is a simple field upgrade to the Waters Micromass MS systems that provides an elegant solution to enable researchers to push their detection limits; for example, to detect low abundance proteins in complex samples," said Tim Riley, vice president science and technology, Waters.

"We are pleased to be partnering with Ionalytics and to be providing our customers with an extra dimension of analysis.

As a complete solution, these instruments provide the robust performance researchers demand in their analytical instrumentation." The Selectra operates at ambient conditions and easily interfaces with the Waters Micromass ZSpray ion inlet with minimal disruption to current instrument configurations.

The Selectra's unique ion-focusing mechanism maintains analyte intensity while the ion-filtering capability reduces chemical background.
