Elsevier executive appointed to advisory
board

Trevor Heritage, senior vice president and chief scientific officer of Elsevier MDL, has joined the Science Informatics Advisory Board at the Indiana University School of Informatics

Trevor Heritage is among 12 leaders from the business, research and industry fields in science and discovery informatics SIAB members advise the directors of the school's graduate programmes in bioinformatics, chemical informatics, and laboratory informatics at its Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campuses

Chemical informatics and bioinformatics are the studies of information technology applied to research in the chemical, agrochemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology domains.

"Dr Heritage's leadership skills and life sciences research experience will add depth to our board," said School of Informatics Dean Michael Dunn.

"This board provides guidance in areas such as curriculum and program development, public and private sector funding, external relations, long-range planning, research support and building strategic alliances".

Heritage brings extensive scientific and pharmaceutical research experience to the SIAB as well as knowledge of biopharma workflows and computational modeling.

"The interdisciplinary approach of the School of Informatics at Indiana University, focusing on both state-of-the-art information technology and chemistry/life science discovery, is thoroughly aligned with Elsevier MDL's research integration strategy, and I'm delighted to be a member of the Science Informatics Advisory Board," said Heritage.

A former senior vice president at Tripos, Heritage joined the San Ramon, Calif.-based Elsevier MDL management team in 2005.

He holds a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Reading, England, and began his career with Shell Research.

In 2002, Elsevier MDL and the School of Informatics established the Elsevier MDL Excellence in Informatics Fellowship, which provides funding support to deserving incoming or second-year graduate students pursuing degrees in chemical informatics or bioinformatics.
