One of the smallest benchtop tablet presses in the world is being used at Kingston University, London, as part of a master of pharmacy degree course

The newly created department of pharmacy at Kingston University London, which is one of only 19 higher education institutes in the UK offering an MPharm degree in pharmacy, has recently purchased a single punch tablet press from Isopak The CPR-6, from the Dott Bonapace range, is fulfilling an important role at the University by assisting pharmacy tutors to train pharmacy undergraduates in the science of tabletting technology, and enabling final year students to conduct small-scale research activities Particularly aimed at laboratories, pharmacies and hospitals, the Dott Bonapace model is one of the smallest bench top units on the world market and has an output of up to 2500 tablets per hour, making it ideal for a teaching environment

Attracted to its compact size and competitive price, the university's senior lecturer in pharmaceutics, Nasir Hussain, also soon found that another key advantage of purchasing the CPR-6 was Isopak's flexible service.

"It was important that we had the choice to upgrade the machine such that it could be instrumented to provide quantifiable data on compression and ejection forces; both Dott Bonapace and Isopak have shown a willingness to meet the university's needs," says Dr Hussain.

The university required a tablet press that was simple to use, within academic budgets and had the option to be upgraded to an instrumented press - which the CPR-6 offered.

And being the UK's sole distributor for the Dott Bonapace range, Isopak and Hussain began working together.

The CPR-6 is constructed from stainless steel and is easy to clean and operate.

Its unit is built in two totally separate parts - a compressing area protected by security panels, and a mechanical area.

The machine is also equipped with independent weight and hardness adjustment capabilities, adding to its flexibility of use.
