Thin anodised aluminium reference sample for glow discharge optical emission spectrometry is electropolished before anodisation for a well-defined interface

Reference samples are critical for the accurate analysis of materials As new materials become available sometimes the limiting factor for quantitative analysis is the availability of a suitable reference material

For this reason, Jobin Yvon has developed a new reference material for glow discharge optical emission spectrometry specifically for the analysis of thin anodised aluminium.

The aluminium is electropolished before the anodisation so that the interface AlOx/Al is well defined and can be used to optimise the resolution of the instrument while setting the control parameters for analysis.

In addition, a thin chromium layer of 2nm is present in the oxide layer providing a second optimisation control point.

The sample allows the check and control of the cleanliness of the GD lamp by following the carbon and sodium signals and the VUV sensitivity through the oxygen ratio between the oxide layer and the aluminium matrix.

It provides for approximately 20 spots with a 4mm anode.
