One of the world's oldest animal hospitals, the Blue Cross animal hospital in Victoria, London, has awarded Labmedics a contract for the supply of a Konelab 20i

The hospital is part of the Blue Cross animal welfare charity and celebrates its centenary this year The charity provides practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners

Welfare problems faced by working horses in London were the original focus for the charity as was the suffering of horses used at the front in the Great War.

The emphasis has changed over the years to household pets and, through its network of animal adoption centres, it rehomes thousands of animals each year.

Its hospitals in London and Grimsby provide veterinary care for those who cannot afford private vets' fees and are equipped to deal with a variety of veterinary problems, ranging from routine neutering to complex surgery.

The Konelab is used in the fully equipped laboratory for various tests including glucose, total protein, albumin, creatinine, urea, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin and sodium.

It is proposed that the low maintenance analyser be connected to the hospital computer system so that results can be transferred directly onto the patient file.

"We chose the Konelab because it was cost effective and had all the features we wanted," explains Steph Heywood at Blue Cross.

"We can add an urgent sample to a batch that is already running and the analyser will do the urgent sample next.

"We can also keep adding samples to the analyser, even when it is running." Konelab 20 from Labmedics offers adaptable and precise analysis of samples and reagents.

It is ideal for small to medium sized laboratories for a wide range of activities including clinical chemistry and specific proteins.

The throughput is up to 200 photometric tests per hour.

Konelab 20i includes an ISE unit, raising throughput to 380 tests per hour.

The instrument has been successfully proven in hospitals, veterinary laboratories and research establishments.

The Clinical Division of Labmedics Limited is a leading UK supplier of laboratory instrumentation, offering a comprehensive range of products, including Konelab instrumentation and Chrono-log platelet aggregation system.

The company's success is based on providing customers with full application and technical support, including product training, service and after sales.
