The Konelab 20i, which is used for routine biochemistry tests, including liver, kidney and heart profiles, as well as ISEs, represents the main piece of equipment in the biochemistry laboratory

The University of Liverpool's Small Animal Teaching Hospital, which is moving to £10m purpose built premises on the Wirral, has chosen the Labmedics's Konelab 20i as part of its state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities The new flagship facility will join the faculty's equine and farm animal hospitals, supporting a clinical caseload unrivalled in any UK vet school

A major boost for small animal veterinary teaching at the University of Liverpool it will provide facilities for teaching, clinical referral service and clinical research, a proud boast for an institution which, in 1904, was the first UK university to offer a school of veterinary science.

Jim Trafford, pathology manager, explains: "The Konelab 20i was purchased after an extensive look at rival machines.

"The analyser has certainly contributed to the laboratory's efficiency.

"Tests were originally undertaken at two sites.

"Now tests from all three hospitals can be completed with the Konelab on one site".

The Konelab 20, which incorporates the flexibility and features of the Konelab 30 and 60, is said to be ideal for the small to medium sized laboratory.

Work efficiency is increased owing to the continuous loading of samples, cuvettes and system reagents.

The throughput is up to 200 photometric tests per hour.

Konelab 20i's ISE unit raises throughput up to 380 tests per hour.

Konelab 20 is used as a front-line analyser for the smaller laboratory or as a support analyser to the higher throughput systems.

Applications include clinical chemistry tests, specific proteins, electrolytes and other user definable tests.
