Agitator units for laboratories and
pilot plants
The Planetroll agitator drive units have special advantages and, with their speed and torque characteristics, offer completely new and diversified possible fields of application
The market for laboratory agitators is dominated by frequency controlled drive units However, these drive units do not satisfy user's demands in laboratory and pilot plant situations, as frequency converter drive units do not provide infinitely variable speed of agitator shaft from zero

It is an advantage to be able to maintain speeds below those possible with frequency controlled drive units.
Sufficient torque for agitation of the process is of equally important significance.
In consideration of these performance features it is evident that many frequency controlled agitator drive units currently used in laboratories do not have the required torque, especially at lower speeds.

Reduction gearboxes offer only a solution in part.
Often, the media to be stirred is of a high viscosity and/or viscosity changes my occur.
In the majority of cases, the viscosity process is completely unknown or it is a factor which is very difficult to define.
In cases where several substances, with different properties are to be prepared, high torque and/or sufficiently high torque reserve is important.
Planetroll, located in southern Germany, has now addressed this complex problem.
Launched in 2006, its agitator drive units for laboratories and pilot plants solve the problems described above.
These agitator drive units have been named Plarojet and Babyjet, each developed for different power ranges.
The basis for these two drive units is the well-known Planetroll variable speed gearbox Plaromaster which has a unique place in the market of variable speed drive units.
It is based on the ball rolling principle and uses elasto-hydrodynamic power transmission and produces torque neither positive nor non-positive.
For decades, the Planetroll ball bearing gearbox has forged ahead in drive technology.
The latest generation of this gearbox has been established in the market in autumn 2003.
The two smallest models (MRV and MR1) are the basis for the Plarojet and Babyjet agitator drive units.
There seven plaromaster EHD gearboxes in total.
A constant speed motor is used, as speed adjustment of the Plarojet and Babyjet is achieved by a variable speed gearbox.
The two agitators use low noise, high quality DC motors drive units.
The Plarojet and Babyjet both feature overload cut-out, exceptionally smooth running and low heat generation due to the efficiency of the DC drive motors.
The speed range of both drive units is 0-1200rpm.
Precise control is achieved by combining electronic measurement of the speed of the output shaft of the gearbox and the integral digital readout.
As standard each model is supplied with a chrome plated, rust resistant, chuck with a capacity of 1-10mm.
This is the preferred method of connection between stirrer and shaft and minimises the risk of accidents.
Alternative keyless chucks are available.
Continuously variable speed adjustment, with linear characteristic is by means of a hand wheel.
Each unit is designed for continuous and maintenance-free operation.
The variable speed gearbox is filled with lifetime fluid lubrication.
Plarojet and Babyjet have been designed with the importance of hygienic conditions in laboratories in mind.
The outer surfaces of both models are, as far as possible, smooth and crevice free.
This allows for easy cleaning.
Uniquely, Plarojet and Babyjet are also used in silicone-free execution for the dyestuffs, paints and coatings industries.
Both agitator drive units can be mounted on standard or special laboratory stands and racking.
At Achema 2006, Planetroll presented Plarojet and Babyjet installed on electrically height-adjustable tripods made of high-grade steel.
Plarojet and Babyjet represent an alternative to presently accepted agitator drive technologies for laboratories and pilot plants.
The Planetroll agitator drive units have special advantages and, with their speed and torque characteristics, offer completely new and diversified possible fields of application. Request a free brochure from Labtex ...
