Digital lab journal 'is superior to
paper'

A computer based laboratory journal has significant advantages: errors in reading and writing are ruled out, the database may be searched for experimental data or results

The digital laboratory journal eJournal increases efficiency by recording and managing of all data measured in an experiment Furthermore it is able to collect other information: synthesis recipe, information on educts and products, analysis results and all other information is stored and presented in one clear document

This increases productivity and minimises loss of knowledge due to personal inconsistency.

eJournal is a must for laboratories working according GLP or comparable validated procedures, says Labtex.

Documents are increasingly stored as digital data files.

The FDA forces the use of digital media in documentation and digital signatures are accepted by law.

The productivity increase by substitution of paper with electronic documents in industrial R+D is estimated to be more than 50 percent.

Tamper-proof storage with digital signatures is possible.

Experimental parameters, measured values and results are presented on clearly arranged protocol sheets.

Laboratory staff are relieved from non productive routine activities like reading meters and plotting of the results, the data evaluation is assisted by automated analysis routines.

For validated processes or GLP a digital laboratory journal is necessary.

Data recording.

The relevant measured values, experimental parameters, results as well as describing texts and annotations are recorded during the experiment.

Digital images, collected with a camera with the LabCam module, may also be acquired and stored according to a time schedule or individual event basis.

The data is presented in report sheets together with tables, charts, single values and text.

Due to the free configuration of the report sheets, optimum documentation is guaranteed.

Manual handling of data - one of the main error sources - is rendered unnecessary.

Unattended operation is possible, night and weekend are gained as experimentation time to complete the experiments as soon as possible.

Reporting.

The batch report, containing measured values, results, automatic and manual manipulations and all other relevant data, is prepared online.

Pictures, chemical formulas, results of external analyses, links to other files or websites, annotations etc may be placed in the report.

Therefore, eJournal provides a step towards the paperless laboratory.

Authenticy and integrity of the information is assured.

The report may be adapted following the needs of your laboratory.

Normally, the report file begins with a cover sheet with general information, followed by a sheet with specifications of the educts and the used equipment, one sheet with analytical results, tables with the measured values during the experiment and selected result charts.

The built-in report editor allows individual design of the report.

The reports and the data may be exported for further processing.

For clear understanding, data may be displayed in charts with raw or manipulated data.

The document may be exported as PDF file, for example to send it via e-mail, or RTF for further processing with word processing programs.

Data evaluation.

Data evaluation and documentation are supported or automated.

Calculations are done with HiText and displayed as spreadsheet or charts, like arrays of curves, averaged values with standard deviation or min./max.

spread.

Calculations in spreadsheets are also possible.

Comprehensive documentation.

An accurate synthesis prescription is a prerequisite for a reproducible procedure.

It contains or links all information necessary to reproduce the reaction.

Fundamental to this is information concerning the experimental setup, data on ingredients and solvents and experimental parameters like times, charges, temperature and pressure.

The documentation with eJournal assures a successful replication of the experiment.

Organisational, engineering and chemical information are also stored to give a comprehensive overview of the process.

eJournal stores the data in a format searchable by the Hilims laboratory information management system.

It is therefore assured, that new and approved syntheses are preserved and readily available. Request a free brochure from Labtex ...
