Aiming to rid the laboratory of cuvettes

Thousands of scientists use cuvettes for routine analysis in the lab every day.

Whether for UV/Vis spectrophotometry, fluorometry or for transfecting cells, scientist are united in their desire for an alternative.

Labtech says it is about to make a lab without cuvettes a reality.

For UV/Vis and fluorescence assays, the ND-1000 and ND-3300 from NanoDrop allow analysis of just 1-2ul of sample in seconds.

No cuvettes, no consumables, no sample dilutions, just wipe the sample away and it is ready to use again.

For transforming cells, Microporation is set to eliminate the need for cuvettes.

Based on a novel design, Microporation allows the transformation of cells within the unique pipette tip.

Just suck up your sample, put the pipette in the holder, press go and eject the sample into a culture dish.

Takes only seconds and allows for truly aseptic transformations.

Speaking about the launch of this campaign, Labtech International's technical director Andrew Jones said: "All of us who have worked in labs hate cuvettes.

"When quantifying nucleic acids or proteins, scratched and dirty cuvettes are a major source of error, as well a waste of precious sample.

"We have worked with NanoDrop for a number of years with great success, and the introduction of the Microporator expands our Clever Little Things product range to build on this success.

"We have already tested in excess of 80 cell lines with the Microporator.

"Our research shows that the novel sample chamber leads to big increases in both transfection efficiency and cell viability even for traditionally hard to transfect cells and primary cells ".
