Advances in treatment of Autoimmune Disorders on show at latest London Technology Network event The latest networking event held by London Technology Network attracted more than 90 top-level researchers and heads of industry to the Royal Society of the Arts, to forge collaborations in the field of inflammation and immune disorders

At the 14 June meeting, representatives from companies including GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer mixed with scientists from institutions such as University College London and Birkbeck University.
16 displays of the latest advancements in the field were also on show, including work on complementary strategies for autoimmune disease from Imperial College London, cytokine analysis from Oxford University and the development of nutraceutical agents from the School of Pharmacy.
This was the first LTN event on inflammation and autoimmune disorders and provided a vital forum for discussing the biggest challenges facing the inflammation arena, as well as exploring the most viable targets for treating autoimmune disorders.
Guest speakers representing the best of academia and industry spoke on the latest research prior to the networking.
Professor Marina Butto of Imperial College London highlighted the importance of crossovers between disease groups to address challenges in the inflammatory marketplace.
Specific developments in rheumatoid arthritis were addressed by Professor David Isenberg of University College London, emphasising the latest clinical targets for therapeutics.
An industrial perspective was offered by Andrew Docherty of Celltech UCB, who outlined the latest technological advances in the treatment of Crohn's disease.
Pfizer's Chris Compton completed the evening's talks, discussing the latest therapeutic approaches for airways diseases.
Jodi Lindsay of St George's Medical School Biomics Centre made contact with a representative from a large diagnostics firm on the night, who was interested in her research.
"I think LTN is one of the best places to contact industry face-to-face," Lindsay said.
The next London Technology Network will be on 5 July 2006 on Applications for Ambient Assisted Living.
