Microscopes help boost public awareness
of science

We set up six educational microscopes on loan from Leica Microsystems for visitors to look at different specimens, including plants, parasitic worms and even brain cells.
There was a quiz to try to identify as many specimens as possible, but I was standing nearby to whisper the answers if anyone had a problem! Students entered a competition to draw one of the samples in an artistic rather than scientific way, and Leica kindly donated a £50 prize to the artist with the best picture." The Summer Science Exhibition looks set to become an annual event in Southampton, and Matt concluded: "It was such a fantastic success we're already talking about how to make it even better next year.".
