BelloCell is developed by Cesco Bioengineering; MetaBios is Cesco's distributor in North America.
BelloCell is specially designed for high-density culture of mammalian and insect cells, and it is said to be ideal for laboratory production of large quantities of proteins, virus, antibody, cell mass and cell components.
BelloCell has been successfully used for culturing many mammalian and insect cell lines, including Vero, Sf-9, Hi-5, BHK-21, rBHK-Factor VIII, CHO, CHO-K1, rCHO-hIgG, rC-127-TPA, HEK293, HepG2, Hela, Huh 7, RK-13, human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC), human foreskin fibroblast cells, and human muscle skeleton cells.
In most cases, BelloCell can produce 6x10^9 cells or more in a single 500ml batch.
BelloCell bioreactor consists of two components: a sterile, single-use culture bottle BellCell-500 and a bellow compressor BelloStage.
When in use, BellCell-500 bottle is partially filled with media and inoculated with cells.
The media are raised and lowered alternatively to submerge and expose the matrices, creating a dynamic interface between air and media on cell surface to maximize nutrient uptake and oxygen transfer.
Because of its high efficiency in nutrient and oxygen transfer, one BelloCell bottle, with specific surface area of 29,000cm2, is capable of producing cell mass comparable to 20 roller bottles.
Since the matrix surface is specially treated, BelloCell can grow both anchorage-dependent and anchorage-independent cells and allow easy harvest of whole cells, cell components or secreted proteins.
Because its compact design and small footprint, the entire BellCell system fits into standard lab incubators, occupying a volume of less than 0.1m3, providing a simple and cost-effective approach for high-density cell culture in the laboratories.
