Malvern and Next Breath join forces for
workshop
Malvern Instruments and Next Breath will jointly host a workshop at the forthcoming respiratory drug delivery conference RDD Europe 2007 which takes place from 17-20 April 2007 in Paris
The workshop entitled 'Evaluating the robustness of drug delivery systems using laser diffraction' will be run by Paul Kippax, product manager for diffraction systems at Malvern, and Julie Suman, president of NextBreath Scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday 18 April, the workshop will feature demonstrations of the Malvern Spraytec particle/droplet size analyser and will focus on the requirements for evaluating the robustness of drug delivery systems using the technique of laser diffraction, with specific reference to nasal products

Aiming to make vaccine delivery pedal-powered
Researchers at Aerovax, at MIT, are using the Spraytec particle size analyser from Malvern in the development of an innovative platform for vaccine delivery, intended for use in developing countries
The effect of both formulation and pump parameters on the nature of the spray produced will be explored.
Highlighted especially will be the value of the highly time-resolved data generated by laser diffraction in understanding droplet formation and delivery.
Malvern's Spraytec system uses laser diffraction to measure particle size and is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry for the analysis of nasal sprays and inhalers.
It delivers real-time, high-speed measurements that enable the complete characterization of both continuous and pulsed spray events.
Speed of measurement is a particularly attractive feature and the data produced offers valuable insight into the processes of particle formation and dispersion during inhaler and nasal spray operation.
