Ion chromatography for performance and
sensitivity
For many years ion chromatography (IC) was dominated by a sole supplier and the non competitive marketplace
The introduction of ion chromatography from Metrohm over 20 years ago was a natural progression having been in the field of ion analysis since the 1940s and Metrohm says it quickly raised the bar in terms of the quality of IC instrumentation available as well as driving down the costs The next generation 861 Advanced Compact IC from Metrohm represents an innovative step forward and for standard anions detection limits of less than 2ug l-1 can be realised using only a 20ul sample loop with the unique and novel sequential suppression technology

Sulphate and chromate in chromic acid plating
The determination of sulphate and chromate in chromic acid plating baths using ion chromatography to reliably and quickly ensure that there is no problem with the component concentrations of the bath
The sequential suppression removes both carbonate from the sample as well as any CO2 formed during the suppressor reaction to virtually eliminate the injection peak while allowing larger peak areas of the anions of interest.
In addition the interfering carbonate peak is effectively removed and the linear range enhanced.
With the 861 a new type of anion chromatography is experienced; larger peak areas, no injection or carbonate peak and baseline stability better than any other seen on the market until now.
The top chromatogram using sequential suppression shows almost no injection peak (1) or carbonate peak (5) and the peak areas are larger compared to the bottom trace running without.
Metrohm is the only supplier that offers IC instruments with a ten year suppressor warranty as standard for a reason; replacement of suppressor modules cost potentially thousands of pounds per annum and is nothing more than a marketing ploy designed to generate huge operational costs.
IC from Metrohm means a modest initial capital outlay and just as importantly the running costs are minimal all backed by the full support and reliability expected of a world leader in ion analysis.
Performance, flexibility and choice has always been part of the Metrohm ethos and the 861 Advanced Compact IC can also be used to measure cations or organic acids also simply with a suitable change of the mobile phase and separation column, the use of pressurised gases is consigned to history where it belongs.
To prepare the eluents manually or using Eluent Synthesization with Valid IC, standalone or automated systems, the choice is yours and upgrades are possible at any point as application demands and laboratory requirements change. Request a free brochure from Metrohm UK ...
