The 809 Titrando from Metrohm can be used to perform mercaptan analysis to ASTM D3227.
Thiols (or organic mercaptans) have an unpleasant odour and are corrosive.
Thiols are removed during the manufacture of fuels such as gasoline, kerosene, aviation, turbine and distillate fuels and it is important to check the efficiency of the treatment and the quality of the final product.
Thiol titration uses the reaction of the R-SH group with Ag+ in a non-aqueous media.
The titration is run using an inflection point determination of the endpoint with a silver/silver sulphide measuring electrode and a glass reference electrode.
The 809 Titrando from Metrohm can be used for this analysis, as it produces fast and reproducible results.
These titrators can be linked to a PC for the archiving of results and an autosampler can be added to automate this application further if required.
