Metrohm device for thermal sample preparation

A Metrohm (UK) product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Jun 26, 2009

The 860 KF Thermoprep is the new Metrohm instrument for thermal sample preparation in Karl Fischer titration.

It can be combined with a range of titrators for volumetric and coulometric water determination.

The 860 KF Thermoprep heats the sample under investigation in a hermetically sealed vessel.

The moisture liberated from the sample is transferred via a carrier gas stream into the titration cell where it is determined.

This means that the 860 KF Thermoprep is suitable for the reliable analysis of difficult samples, such as plastics or salts, which release their water very slowly or only at elevated temperatures and are, therefore, not suitable for direct KF titration.

As the sample does not enter the titration cell, side reactions with the KF reagents are eliminated.

As a result of the clearly arranged menu navigation, all parameters can be set with just a few keys to suit individual requirements.

The sophisticated design of the 860 KF Thermoprep prevents the needle from descending outside the septum.

In most cases, the oven method requires no toxic solvents, so no harmful solvent vapours can escape into the laboratory.
