At the American Chemical Society spring 2006 meeting, Milestone introduced the Multisynth labstation, a new instrument that represents a paradigm shift for microwave-enhanced synthetic chemistry

Multisynth is the first microwave synthesizer designed to give medicinal chemists the flexibility to work in either single-mode for small sample scale or multimode format for scaling up reactions and running in parallel mode Vortex agitation is a standout feature of the Multisynth and an industry first

This feature serves to homogenize reaction mixtures during synthesis thus eliminating hot and cold spots and the need for stir bars.

Shaking and stirring the reaction vial(s) is particularly well suited to solid-phase reactions.

The Multisynth can accommodate pressurized reactors with a working volume from 0.2-40ml in a single vial and up to 240ml (40ml x six vials) in parallel or multimode.

Seamless scale-up is accomplished with Multisynth's powerful Easycontrol software.

A single method can be used without modification when increasing the reaction volume or running vials in parallel.

No need for time-consuming redevelopment.

Multisynth also incorporates 'flash' heating and fast cooling to optimize reaction conditions with precise temperature control via fibre-optic and dual infrared sensors.

These features combine to promote reproducibility, purity, and high yield in microwave-enhanced synthetic reactions.
