UV technologies in water purification
systems

Paper discusses the effectiveness of using UV technologies along a water purification chain and the parameters to be considered when selecting UV lamps for water purification systems

Millipore's R and D Notebook No 9 by I Kano, D Darbouret and S Mabic from the Lab Water Division's department of research and development discusses the use of ultraviolet technologies in water purification systems for both its germicidal properties and its effect in reducing organic contaminants This paper discusses the effectiveness of using UV technologies along a water purification chain and the parameters and configurations to be considered when selecting UV lamps for water purification systems

Included is a description of UV exposure on various types of bacteria and the effect of different UV wavelengths on organic molecules.

Results are given from experiments showing the germicidal effect of a 254nm UV lamp, used for biofilm prevention in a pure water storage reservoir, and on the effect of a dual-wavelength UV lamp (185nm and 254nm) in Milli-Q ultrapure water systems for the reduction of organic contaminants.
