Rotary table works in position, speed, torque mode

A Micromech product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Sep 6, 2006

The DM 1004C from Micromech is a high performance direct drive rotary servo system, which provides high accuracy and torque without the need of speed reducers

The DM 1004C consists of a brushless direct drive motor, a cross roller support bearing system, an integral optical encoder, a microprocessor-based drive, power supply, and a 3m motor-to-drive cable.

The highly efficient direct drive brushless motor design eliminates the need for a gear drive or other mechanical drive train and as a result gives long life, maintenance free operation.

With a working surface diameter of only 116mm and overall depth including flange of 77mm the unit is designed to offer a compact solution to machine builders.

The clever cross roller bearing design can support up to a massive 350kg of compression load and a useful 3.3kg-m of overhung load.

The positional repeatability is an exceptional 3arc-sec yet the drive can deliver a powerful peak torque of 4Nm and its built-in test mode simplifies optimum tuning.

With a maximum velocity: 2.5 revs per second they are still able to maintain an accuracy of +60arc-sec (0.0167deg) on the standard version and a +20arc-sec (0.00556deg) option is also available.

The axial and radial run-out is 0.01mm and they have very smooth rotation at slow speeds, as well as a much faster settling time than a traditional servo motor or speed reducer system.

The table is suitable for a wide range of industrial and machine tool applications but with a Class 10 clean room option on offer it can also be used in optical, photonic, semiconductor or research systems.
