Feeling v-groovy
Precision components for alignment of single and multimode optical fibres benefit from a new highly-accurate groove grinding process
Moritex Europe has announced the availability of a range of high performance v-groove components and fully manufactured fibre arrays Produced using a highly accurate grinding process, Moritex Europe has been able to obtain deep grooves relative to those made by the traditional chemical etching methods used in the manufacture of silicon v-groove devices

The highly accurate tolerances derived from the manufacturing process means that the devices maintain an even fibre height and pitch which is essential for low loss connections and even performance.
With pitch tolerances typically better than +/- 0.3 micron, Moritex v-grooves and fibre arrays are set to play a key role in the alignment of single and multimode optical fibres within optical modules.
Both v-grooves components and fibre arrays (perpendicular flat or angled) can be supplied to meet demanding customer specifications.
Devices can be made in virtually any size, and can have from one to hundreds of grooves, the most common though include 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 grooves.
The proprietary Moritex process can be applied to a varietry of substrates including glass, ceramic and quartz.
Components using quartz substrates have the advantage of allowing fixings using UV curing resins which provide the highest reliability.
