A case in point is a Mott customer that supplies chromatography and microdialysis products to the industry.
This customer purchases parts from a vendor that integrates Mott porous metal frits into their own product offering.
Several years ago, quality problems began to plague production rather abruptly.
After a prolonged investigation, the problem was traced to the porous metal frits.
The supplier of these frits had been changed to save a dollar or two per frit.
This jeopardised the performance of items costing hundreds of dollars.
Our customer notes, "When we found out the porous metal vendor had been changed at the same time the quality issues began surfacing, I immediately had them change back to purchasing the frits from Mott".
"Since that time, our products have had no issues.
"Nothing replaces quality when it comes to maintaining your brand name in the industry, especially not a small cost savings".
