Leading European trade fair offers range of exhibits covering complete process chains in industrial and research laboratories - a driving force for new trends and a guide for investment decisions

When it opens its gates from 25-28 April 2006, not only will Analytica be celebrating its twentieth anniversary; it will also continue its success story presenting the entire breadth and depth of process chains in industrial and research laboratories The international trade fair for analysis, laboratory technology and biotechnology focuses on topics that move decision-makers and users in laboratories in the industrial sectors for chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medicine, nutrition and the environment as well as government and industrial research

It is clearly positioned to present the entire range of marketable laboratory equipment and applications, to depict economic solutions for industrial and university user groups, and to include first-rate gatherings for business and science that round out the exhibition, such as the Analytica Conference and the Analytica Forum.

This exhibition concept positions Analytica as a central gathering for the international laboratory sector.

The last Analytica in 2004 set new records in international attendance: some 30% of the more than 30,000 visitors and 36% of the exhibitors were from countries other than Germany.

More than half of the visitors stated that they gather information on the latest laboratory technology exclusively at Analytica and do not attend any other trade fair or exhibition.

Some 1000 exhibitors from Germany and abroad are expected to participate in Analytica 2006.

They will present their products and solutions on approximately 60,000m2 of exhibition space in five halls, and exhibits will be broken down into the following categories:.

Analysis/quality control including instrumental analysis, microscopy and optical image processing, industrial process control and materials testing as well as quality control in pharmaceuticals and industry.

Laboratory technology including laboratory technology and laboratory equipment, laboratory automation/ robotics, laboratory data-processing systems and documentation, reagents, test kits, chemical and consumable materials.

Biotechnology, life sciences and diagnostics including bioanalysis and biochemicals, bioinformatics and diagnostics in medical research.

A driving force for new trends and a guide for investment decisions.

The 20th Analytica will focus on economic systems for routine laboratory applications, from consistent sample management, making optimum use of reagent quantities and increasing analysis throughput rates to combining analysis procedures in a single step and the effective use of laboratory automation.

Analytica 2006 will examine the latest trends, demonstrate potential for improving efficiency and give users new impetus for their investment decisions.

The key trends are easy to identify: the volume of samples being tested both in classic analysis and bioanalysis is increasing constantly.

As a result, there is a growing need for quick and uncomplicated high-throughput screening techniques.

A closely related topic is that of laboratory automation: In addition to large complete solutions, rapidly configurable, specialised workcells are becoming increasingly popular.

There is also a trend toward working with increasingly smaller sample quantities, which means that miniaturisation such as micro-arrays and lab-on-chip approaches are also an important trend.

These specialised tests are an important market segment, particularly in biotechnology.

But there is also a continuous flow of new developments involving known analytical methods, such as new microscopy procedures for 3D images or portable NMR spectrometers.

Klaus Dittrich, managing director at Munich International Trade Fairs, is convinced: "Analytica 2006 is the perfect platform for introducing these new developments to a broad-based audience of German and international decision-makers".

Biotechnology/life sciences: a strong exhibition sector continues to develop.

The biotechnology, life sciences and diagnostics sectors have been permanently anchored in the range of exhibits at Analytica and have enjoyed continuously high growth rates for years.

Analytica 2006 will continue down this road to success and make its mark in the following ways:.

It will focus on marketable systems for biotechnology-laboratories and industrial enterprises.

It will features presentation platforms for bioregions, biotech start-ups and university spin-offs that have the same economic capabilities as these enterprises and that support entering the market and/or establishing contacts and networking with business associates.

It will demonstrate the opportunities and potential that biotechnology has to offer in the most important application markets such as nutrition (genfood, functional food), the environment, pharmaceuticals and medicine.

That makes Analytica the most important business platform for biotechnology in Europe.

Analytica Conference and Analytica Forum: gatherings for science and industry.

As in the past, the 2006 fair will be accompanied by the Analytica Conference at the International Congress Center Munich (ICM).

The congress is traditionally organised by the three trade associations that work together under the umbrella of the 'Forum Analytik' - the German Chemical Society (GDCh), the Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) and the German Association for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL).

Within the scope of the Analytica Conference, renowned scientists from Germany and abroad will inform participants about the latest developments in basic research and report on innovative techniques in analysis, the life sciences and diagnostics.

As a result, the Analytica Conference bridges the important gap between industry, research and science and promotes dialogue, which is essential to the development of new equipment and applications.

The business-oriented Analytica Forum is Munich International Trade Fair's way of promoting the exchange of information and the transfer of knowledge between various branches of industry, between theory and practice and between manufacturers and users.

It will feature product presentations by exhibiting companies as well as panel discussions on all three of Analytica's major themes.

Organisers are also planning to incorporate business topics, future-oriented topics and trends into the programme.

The Analytica Forum takes place on all five days of the fair, although Friday is traditionally dedicated to the topic of jobs and pursuing careers in the industry.

Analytica 2006 is under new leadership: after Volker Schwartz left the company in mid-March, Susanne Groedl took over as the new exhibition director for Analytica.

Groedl has more than seven years of experience in the field of project management and trade-fair organisation.
