Laser microdissection with a difference

A Nikon UK product story

Fully automated UV dissection system coupled to microscope video imaging has the advantage that samples are not exposed to additional heat or radiation that could damage cells

The UV-Cut laser microdissection system, now available from Nikon Instruments Europe, provides a fully automated UV dissection system coupled to video imaging on the microscope.

Using cold UV laser technology, this system has the advantage that samples are not exposed to additional heat or radiation that could damage cells.

This reliable, precise and contamination free system is ideal for the rapid isolation of cell organelles, single cells, or groups of cells from paraffin sections, frozen sections, smears, and even cell and tissue cultures.

Robust design and a long life diode laser ensure maintenance-free operation for about 10,000 hours.

Users view the samples on screen and outline cells of interest using the mouse.

Excellent image quality allows clear identification of the cells, and an overview image of the entire sample is provided on screen to provide a reference point for easy navigation.

The system automatically cuts the sample, measures cell dimensions, determines the area and documents the event.

Computer optimised optics and a high precision stage provide accurate performance - better than one micron.

Isolated samples are securely removed using a new adhesive membrane, which protects the tissue on the slide against cross contamination.

A 'single step collection' picks up only dissected cells for further processing.

The samples are collected in the same orientation as on the intact sample - so that positions can be verified, if needed.

In contrast to some other microdissection systems, the samples are fixed at all times - there are no loose or falling samples.

The UV-Cut system comes complete with powerful software that memorises the set up for each lens on the microscope ensuring the correct focus and laser power, and enables precise delineation of the cutting path - including the cutting of multiple samples.

The UV-Cut laser microdissection system is manufactured by MMI under the name of 'SlµCut'.

Nikon Instruments Europe is handling distribution across all EU countries and other European countries, such as Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, Baltic countries, Croatia, and Slovenia, with the exception of Spain.
