Nanostream, provider of high-throughput microfluidic analytical systems to companies involved in drug discovery and development, has announced the availability of its Brio 4208 cartridge series designed specifically for quantitative applications such as solubility assessment and dissolution testing.
The 4208 cartridge series, which accommodates larger sample volumes, is used in conjunction with the Nanostream Veloce micro parallel liquid chromatography (uPLC) system to achieve 2% peak area reproducibility for 2400 samples analysed in 100 runs across 24 columns of a single cartridge.
Applications such as solubility, dissolution testing and formulations studies require greater peak area reproducibility in each separation than other analytical applications in drug discovery and development.
The Brio 4208 cartridge series was designed to meet these requirements, giving scientists more reliable data with CVs in the range of 2% for these applications.
Compared to Nanostream's standard Brio 4207 cartridge series, which accommodates sample volumes of 0.4 to 1.0ul, sample reservoirs in the Brio 4208 cartridge series can be filled with 3 to 5ul to achieve greater precision in sample analysis.
Like the 4207 series, the 4208 series is currently available with 8cm columns.
"Our customers have requested improved peak area precision so that they can expand the utility of the Veloce system to new areas such as dissolution and formulations studies.
"The new cartridge was designed to meet the requirements of these applications while maintaining the same speed and cost benefits as before," said Gene Dantsker, vice president of technology, Nanostream.
"Nanostream will continue to introduce new cartridges and instrumentation for customers who need application-specific solutions".
Each reusable Brio cartridge enables 2400 liquid chromatography separations.
The polymer-based cartridges incorporate twenty-four columns packed with standard (C18) stationary phase material to achieve reversed phase separations.
Typical flow rates per column for each cartridge are 2 to 20ul per minute, which significantly reduces solvent consumption.
The 4208 series is the latest series in Nanostream's suite of second-generation Brio cartridges, including the Brio 4207 cartridge series, designed for a wide range of analytes and applications, and the Brio 4407 cartridge series, which employ shorter columns for faster separations.
In 2005, Nanostream says it will continue to expand the range of cartridge offerings to help new and existing Veloce system customers meet experimental requirements for new applications.
