Laser improves study of fluid and
airflow dynamics
Features a twin laser head design that produces high repetition rates and enables users to capture more data sets during studies of flow phenomena
New Wave Research introduces the latest in its line of compact PIV laser systems, the Solo IV Designed specifically for fluid and airflow visualisation, the Solo IV features a twin laser head design that produces high repetition rates and enables users to capture more data sets during studies of flow phenomena

At a wavelength of 193nm the photon energy is absorbed by most materials in a sub-micron-thick surface layer that ablates almost without thermal effect on the remaining material
Each of the Solo IV's laser heads can produce a 50mJ pulse of 532nm light at a repetition rate of 50Hz.
When used with the new higher speed CCD cameras and both laser heads firing, the repetition rate is doubled to 100Hz allowing researchers to capture as many as 100 data images per second.
In addition, the 50mJ of energy broadens the range of PIV experiments that can be performed with the Solo IV.
Compact and portable, the Solo IV is a Q-switched, Nd:Yag laser system that takes up minimal space in crowded research laboratories.
The system consists of two laser heads housed in one compact package, both driven by a single power supply that can be positioned up to eight feet away.
"The unique configuration of our Solo laser systems facilitates set-up in laboratory environments and makes it very easy to move from one experiment to the next," said Johnny Poon, sales manager at New Wave Research.
"There is no other PIV laser on the market today that is this compact in this performance class." The Solo IV also features multiple triggering options.
The laser can be fired from the front panel or from an external source via rear-panel BNC connectors.
Q-switch activation can also be controlled internally or by an external trigger source, allowing precise timing control of the energy pulse.
