David Hawksworth, has been appointed managing director of Oxford Biosensors to oversee the next phase of development of Multisense, its point of care (POC) cholesterol analyser

Dr Hawksworth has a proven track record of leading an early stage company through transition to sustained profitability in the international market As engineering director, and then managing director of Oxford Magnet Technology, he played a leading role in the growth of the company from a turnover of ?1m and 30 employees to ?120m and 700 employees

This success reflects both market growth and increased market share by introduction of new technology and improved efficiency.

His experience of implementing processes for the smooth transition of new products from concept to prototype to volume production will be a valuable asset in his new role, says Oxford Biosensors.

The company's Multisense is coming to market at a time when the demand for POC testing is growing rapidly and consumer awareness of the danger of high cholesterol levels is being actively promoted.

An instrument which will give a full lipid profile in seconds and can be used anywhere, by anybody, is exactly what the market is waiting for, it says.
