Olympus has introduced a 'unique' hardware package that combines an upright and an inverted research microscope into a single comprehensive instrument.

The new Up/Down Microscope is designed primarily for researchers who are performing two different imaging techniques on a single specimen It can be used with multiple cameras and accessories

"By placing an upright microscope above the inverted microscope, researchers get two microscopes in one," said Nicolas George, product manager for the Olympus America scientific equipment group.

"The system is ideal for people doing two techniques simultaneously on the same field, such as scientists doing Tirf microscopy on the bottom and electrophysiology with water dipping on top".

The Up/Down microscope is designed for use with Slidebook software.
