Closing date of 31 December 2003 for infection control team of the year awards, with cash prizes totalling £6500 and immeasurable kudos

On 5 December 2003 the UK government announced a new action plan designed to raise the standards of hygiene and infection control in hospitals One element of the plan is to give more power to infection control teams to make changes within their own hospitals

Each hospital trust is now to have a dedicated director of infection control.

Infection control teams are also to be encouraged to be more proactive in identifying and isolating the causes of infection.

If you are a director of infection control or involved in infection control at any level, winning the Oxoid infection control team of the year award could be just what you need to develop your team even further.

The first prize of £5000 could be spent on motivational team building events or further education for team members (eg attendance at conferences) - in fact you can spend it however you like.

The second prize is £1000 and the third prize £500.

Award entries close on 31 December 2003, so if you haven't yet sent in your entry - do it now.

It is simple to enter.

Just send a two-page summary describing the infection control challenges in your hospital and tell Oxoid how your team members have responded to these challenges.

Describe the outcome of your work, including any new testing, reporting or auditing practices and procedures adopted.

Finally explain why this has improved things for patients and the hospitals with which you work.

The Oxoid infection control team of the year awards are supported by the Hospital Infection Society, the Infection Control Nurses Association and the International Federation of Infection Control, and their representatives form part of the judging panel of key infection control experts.
