Oxoid food award winners receive prizes

At the recent Oxoid Food Seminar Day, held at Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association in the UK, the Oxoid Awards were presented

An invited audience of food and brewing professionals at Oxoid's third Food Seminar Day heard a range of experts talking on key issues facing today's food microbiology laboratories This was followed by presentation of the Oxoid Awards for Food Safety and Hygiene

The winners were as follows.

Oxoid laboratory technician of the year: first prize, Rachel Fletcher, Westward Laboratories, Callington, Cornwall, who received a commemorative trophy, £1000 and a trip to the 2006 International Association of Food Protection Meeting in Calgary, Canada.

Second place: Muhammad Sabir Hussain, Qarshi Research International, Pakistan.

Third place: Kate Roberts, Youngs Bluecrest Seafoods, Grimsby, NE Lincolnshire.

Oxoid laboratory of the year: first prize, Westward Laboratories, Callington, Cornwall, which received a commemorative trophy and a cheque for £500.

Second: Wessex Environmental Microbiology Services, Southampton, Hampshire.

Third: Bernard Matthews, Norwich, Norfolk.

Highly commended: Southern Salads, Tonbridge, Kent.

The judges' special award: Jimmy Swan accepted the Judges' Special Award and a cheque for £500 on behalf of Wye Valley Brewery, Stoke Lacy, Hereford.

The winners then attended a celebratory dinner at the Three Ways House Hotel in Gloucestershire, which is home to the world famous Pudding Club, where a special Oxoid Pudding was served to commemorate the occasion. Request a free brochure from Oxoid ...
