Food seminar sees unveiling of new
product
Provides a quick and convenient solution for food laboratories to reduce the labour-intensive and time consuming task of preparing large volumes of primary enrichment media and diluents
Over 100 delegates attended the third annual Oxoid Food Seminar Day that was held recently at Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association (CCFRA) During the event delegates heard from a variety of speakers on diverse topics and were the first to see a new Oxoid product

In the morning session Judith Hilton, from the UK's Food Standards Agency, informed delegates about the new EU regulation on microbiology criteria that comes into force in January 2006 and outlined key areas in which the UK had negotiated.
Philip Smith of Quality Management spoke about the use of proficiency data and how to manage unexpected or out of norm results and the corrective actions that should be taken.
Elaine Nichols, technical projects manager at Oxoid, received many questions following her talk on the uses and abuses of culture media which highlighted the breadth of expertise that is available from Oxoid.
Elaine encouraged the audience to contact Oxoid's technical support team, based at the company's headquarters in Basingstoke, UK, with any questions regarding media selection and techniques.
Over the lunchtime period delegates were divided into groups and taken into the laboratories at CCFRA to see a demonstration of Oxoid's new Dry-Bags.

There was a lot of interest in this innovative new product about to be launched by Oxoid.
During the afternoon seminar session, Christina Oscroft of CCFRA gave a review of the ISO17025:2005 (2nd edition) Laboratory Quality Standard where she outlined the changes between this and the 1999 edition and the implications for laboratories.
Ian Hart, marketing manager at Oxoid then gave a short overview of some new products for the food industry which was followed by a lively presentation from Westward Laboratories about the challenges they faced and overcame to win the title of Oxoid Laboratory of the Year.
The seminar day came to a close when the winners of the Oxoid Food and Brewing Awards were awarded with their prizes. Request a free brochure from Oxoid ...
