Culture medium for water quality monitoring
Oxoid has launched its water plate count agar, a medium to permit the enumeration of culturable micro-organisms from water using a colony count technique
Designed especially for use in media fill trials, both products are irradiated to ensure they are suitable for use in controlled areas.
Readily dissolved in cold water, they pass freely through a 0.2um filter.
Quality certificates as well as a range of supporting documentation are available for these products including filterability studies, certificates of origin, comparative fertility studies and irradiation certificates.

Environmental monitoring: Oxoid offers a wide range of high quality, prepared culture media products, which are said to be ideal for environmental monitoring in the pharmaceutical industry.
These products come in an assortment of triple wrapped and irradiated formats, and contain Tryptone soya agar, a general purpose medium; or Sabouraud dextrose agar, ideal for the growth of yeasts and moulds, both with or without neutralisers.
Ready prepared media: Oxoid also provides a variety of other media in plate and bottle formats, including general purpose growth media, selective and chromogenic agars as well as pre-enrichment and selective broths.
Oxoid prepared media products come with all the assurances of a well-established and reputable company.
All products undergo quantitative quality control testing, using a low-dose inoculum of target organisms to ensure optimum performance.
Product specifications can be provided for all products.
Certificates of origin for animal components are available with each batch, as are quantitative certificates of analysis.
Quality control organisms: Quanti-cultplus is the Oxoid range of ready-to-use quality control organisms, which deliver a low level inoculum within a specified range of colony forming units (cfu).
Quanti-cultplus is ideal for quality control and growth promotion testing of culture media, among others.
Microbial identification and characterisation: for identification of micro-organisms, Oxoid can provide a range of products to meet all requirements including the Microbact and RapID Systems.
RapID is easy to inoculate, provides results in only four hours and offers tests for a variety of organism groups including enterobacteriaceae, anaerobes and yeasts amongst others.
The Microbact range also offers a selection of self-contained, biochemical-based tests for the identification of key pathogenic bacteria, including gram-negative bacteria and staphylococcal species, in less than 24 hours.
Both systems are extremely easy to use and interpret, and provide accurate and reliable identifications.
They are ideal as a laboratory's primary identification system or to complement an automated system.
For genetic characterisation of isolates, Oxoid offers the DuPont Qualicon RiboPrinter system, a fully automated system which generates a bacterial Riboprint in just eight hours.
This 'genetic fingerprint' allows the system to differentiate easily between different organisms, characterising bacteria accurately to sub-species level and providing unparalleled power to pinpoint sources of bacterial contamination. Request free introductory details about products from Oxoid ...
