Tryptone soya broth for aseptic process
simulation
Microbiology specialist Oxoid has introduced Oxoid cold filterable Tryptone Soya Broth (cfTSB) for use in aseptic process simulations in the pharmaceutical industry
This high quality medium is ideal for use as a liquid placebo or as a growth medium added after processing of a solid placebo Oxoid cfTSB is a highly nutritious, general purpose medium that can support the growth of a wide range of bacteria, yeasts and fungi when incubated under appropriate conditions

Culture medium for water quality monitoring
Oxoid has launched its water plate count agar, a medium to permit the enumeration of culturable micro-organisms from water using a colony count technique
Prepared using water for injection (WFI) quality water and with quality certification available for every batch, cfTSB is now available in 10, 20, 50 and 100 litre volume bioprocess containers (BPCs).
Oxoid cfTSB medium conforms to the formulation stated for aseptic process simulations in international pharmacopoeia.
Each component has been specially screened and selected to ensure easy filtration.
The WFI quality water is produced using a fully validated system and is filter sterilised into the BPCs and meets current USP production and test requirements.
A Vcap value for each batch has been determined with three different filter types.
BPCs are single-use, flexible, high density polyethylene bags that are engineered specifically for pharmaceutical applications.
They are constructed from superior medical grade plastic that is free of animal derived components and meets USP Class VI requirements.
Connection is made through a male or female connector which is attached to the BPC with C-Flex tubing.
10L and 20L BPCs are packed in cardboard casing for easy storage.
Larger volumes are stored in single-use drums.
Ready-to-use cfTSB in BPCs removes the media preparation step and helps to avoid accidental contamination of the media.
Jennifer Laidlaw, pharmaceutical applications manager, Oxoid, comments: "Oxoid provides high quality products to meet the evolving needs of the pharmaceutical industry.
"As process simulations play an increasingly important role in the manufacture of aseptic products, Oxoid cfTSB in ready-to-use BPC containers allow pharmaceutical companies to simulate their aseptic processes as closely as possible, while meeting the requirements of international pharmacopoeia".
