Better microbial growth from
vitamin-rich peptone
In addition to complying with the specification for a pancreatic digest of casein in the US Pharmacopoeia, Tryptone X also provides an excellent source of vitamins
Oxoid has extended its range of laboratory preparations to include Tryptone X, a new vitamin-rich pancreatic digest of casein Tryptone X is obtained using an advanced process that allows the natural release of vitamins into the product

Culture medium for water quality monitoring
Oxoid has launched its water plate count agar, a medium to permit the enumeration of culturable micro-organisms from water using a colony count technique
As a result, this highly nutritious peptone encourages improved growth rates for a variety of important micro-organisms.
Tryptone is an excellent source of amino nitrogen and is often used as a constituent in microbial culture media.
Its high tryptophan content makes it ideal for use in media that test for the indole reaction.
It can also be used to detect 'flat-sour' or 'sulphide' spoilage organisms in the canning industry and in sterility testing media.
It may be used as a constituent of media used in fermentation processes to produce antibiotics, extra-cellular protein, vaccines, interferon and diphtheria toxoid.
It could also be used in industrial biotechnology for the production of recombinant proteins and speciality chemicals (ethanol, mannitol, bioplastic PHA, heavy duty detergents), in the production of monoclonal antibodies and for research purposes.
In growth studies, Tryptone X demonstrated superior performance compared to a standard Tryptone product in the growth of E coli (ATCC 25922), Lactobacillus brevis (ATCC 8291), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 9144), Citrobacter freundii (ATCC 8090) and Enterobacter aerogenes (ATCC 13048)3.
In addition, both Oxoid Tryptone X and Oxoid Tryptone demonstrated improved growth curves for Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633) compared to competitor Tryptone products3.
Furthermore, Tryptone X offers excellent uniformity, with proven lot-to-lot consistency3.
Together with Oxoid Tryptone (product code LP0042) and Oxoid Tryptone T (product code LP0043) (used in the production of Clostridium tetani), the addition of Tryptone X allows Oxoid to offer an excellent selection of products for formulations that require a pancreatic or tryptic digest of casein.
