MICE and lateral flow tests among Oxoid offerings

An Oxoid product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Aug 21, 2009

Oxoid has showcased its range of microbiology products at the 2009 European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID).

The easy use of Oxoid MIC Evaluators (MICE) was demonstrated to visitors to Oxoid's booth by a simple prize draw in which they were invited to peel open a specially adapted MICE sachet to reveal whether or not they had won a prize.

Amanda Appleton, clinical applications manager at Oxoid, said: 'MICE strips combine the simplicity and ease-of-use of the diffusion method with the accuracy of an MIC test, to provide important information for the treatment of critically ill patients.

'This simple draw demonstrated the key benefits of the product by highlighting how the individually packaged strips are so easy to use, with visitors commenting that they liked how the strip handle is revealed as the sachet is peeled apart.

The Xpect range of lateral flow tests (including the Xpect Flu AandB test) was also on display at the event, together with two new additions to the Brilliance Resistant Screening Agar range of chromogenic agars, which allow appropriate infection control and treatment to commence sooner for the best possible patient outcome.

Brilliance ESBL Agar and Brilliance VRE Agar are used as screening tests to rapidly identify patients colonised with problematic Extended Spectrum B-Lactamase-producing organisms and vancomycin-resistant enterococci, respectively.

A variety of scientific poster presentations on Oxoid products were also made at the Congress.
