Economical heater block for COD testing
Multi-tube microprocessor-controlled heating block offers significant advantages in space saving and power consumption over the traditional method for chemical oxygen demand (COD) testing
Water analysis specialist Palintest has introduced a new, high capability, multi-tube heater block The block is said to be ideal for chemical oxygen demand (COD) reactions and enables Palintest to offer economical COD test kits for use with its Tubetest system

Sea change in testing chemical oxygen demand
Water samples for testing are increasingly containing high levels of chloride, often due to the ingress of seawater into coastal treatment works, and need extra suppression capability
COD test conforms to international standard
Simple, quick, and convenient method of testing chemical oxygen demand which conforms to the new ISO standard on sealed-tube COD testing
These include heater block, test tube rack, photometer adaptor and micropipettor.
The heater block is a microprocessor controlled incubator with a dual LED display.
Its multi-tube block offers significant advantages in space saving and power consumption over the traditional method.
Temperature is settable from 30C to 200C with timer control.
It offers rapid heat up rate within 15 minutes from ambient to 100C, and features stability, uniformity and accuracy of +/-1C.
Palintest says the Tubetest system offers a simple, quick, and convenient method of testing COD which conforms to the ISO standard on sealed-tube COD testing (BS ISO 15705:2002).
A sample is added to a Tubetest tube, it is digested for two hours at 150C, cooled, and the test colour measured using a Palintest photometer.
The COD test is vital for assessing the quality of effluents and wastewater prior to discharge.
The liquid reagents are supplied pre-measured in labelled, disposable test tubes, and Palintest's Photometer 8000 provides instant test recognition and reading, for accurate results.
COD is probably the most widely tested parameter in pollution control.
The test is used by a wide range of industrial plants, food and beverage companies, and contract labs.
