Sonographers at Sheffield Children's Hospital have found that the recent upgrade of their ultrasound system has given them even more diagnostic capabilities

Sonographers at the Sheffield Children's Hospital have found that the recent upgrade of their Philips Ultrasound HDI 3000 system to an HDI 5000 has given them even more diagnostic capabilities.

Nicola Jones, senior sonographer, explained: "Our patients range from neonates to young adults.

"Our scanning range is top to toe, so our ultrasound systems need to be capable of everything, which is why we have always chosen Philips.

"A fast frame rate and excellent resolution are essential for scanning babies and the detail that we see using the HDI 5000, especially in the neonatal hip scans, is incredible.

"We have a hockey stick probe for very superficial imaging and this too gives excellent detail, and is proving useful for accessing areas that were previously difficult to reach, such as neck swellings in small babies.

"The HDI 5000 is ergonomically designed, with the monitor able to swivel out sideways, which reduces twisting of the sonographer's upper body when scanning "We have had Philips Ultrasound systems for 15 years now and, although we looked around at other machines at BMUS, as far as we are concerned there is no comparison.

"We have complete confidence in Philips Ultrasound as a company and haven't found any other company that could offer anything better at the moment.".
