Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) scoring functionality helps researchers analyse data quality and accuracy

Lion Bioscience and PerkinElmer have announced the market launch of SNPscorer, a dedicated software package for SNP genotype analysis SNPscorer, created with software developed by Lion, improves genotyping analysis with PerkinElmer's AcycloPrime-FP genotyping reagents and instruments

PerkinElmer Life Sciences is launching SNPscorer at this week's Genome Sequencing and Analysis conference in Boston, MA.

This new informatics tool complements the AcycloPrime-FP SNP platform from PerkinElmer, which features comprehensive chemistries and instrumentation.

The AcycloPrime-FP SNP platform is based on the well-published FP-TDI protocol.

Using techniques familiar to every lab, it is simple, robust and extremely cost-efficient.

Lion's software enables users of PerkinElmer's AcycloPrime-FP kits to transform raw SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) data more quickly and easily into accurate genotypes.

These genotypes describe the genetic variations in organisms and can yield important information about the causes of diseases and potential therapeutics.

Lion's software automates genotyping analysis using advanced cluster analysis methods, eliminating the previous manual and time-consuming process.

To increase research accuracy, Lion's informatics experts developed scoring functionality for PerkinElmer's SNPscorer, enabling users to assess genotype data by objective quality criteria.

Lion's software also provides users with easy management of their results by allowing data to be saved in relational databases such as Oracle or Microsoft Access.

The package provides many user-friendly features such as manual editing, best model fitting, Hardy-Weinberg testing, and database connectivity.

SNPscorer is an ideal tool for researchers involved with SNP detection, genotyping, and the area of pharmacogenomics.

"Lion's unique position in bioinformatics and genotyping allows for the creation of a dedicated software package that is user-friendly and intuitive," said Peter Coggins, president of PerkinElmer Life Sciences.

"This software, like everything in PerkinElmer's functional genomics and proteomics product portfolio, is designed first and foremost with customer needs in mind." "Lion's collaboration with PerkinElmer is a good illustration of the value Lion adds to life science companies with our unique combination of science and IT expertise," said Drew Arnold, Lion's senior director of business development.

"Our software developers are scientists who understand the nature of the data researchers are studying and what IT-driven functionality they need to improve the speed and accuracy of their work.

Lion has helped PerkinElmer take a great SNP genotyping product and make it even better with automated data analysis." PerkinElmer's contribution to the study of SNPs.

PerkinElmer has commercialised the FP-TDI technology under the brand name of AcycloPrime-FP SNP detection systems.

Product offerings include reagent kits, Victor2 FP plate readers, and analysis software.

In addition, PerkinElmer provides automation equipment to researchers with high assay throughput demand.
