Two new gas chromatography systems for the analysis of transformer oil fault gases; and analysis of off-flavour components in beer, plus enhanced software and new business relationships

At Pittcon 2005, PerkinElmer made a series of announcements including two new gas chromatography (GC) systems: the PerkinElmer-Arnel Toga (transformer oil and gas analyser) system, integrated with PerkinElmer's TurboMatrix headspace sampler, for the analysis of transformer oil fault gases; and a system featuring the TurboMatrix headspace trap for the analysis of off-flavour components in beer Both systems provide enhanced analysis while meeting industry standards and specifications

In addition, PerkinElmer will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its gas chromatography technology at the show.

The PerkinElmer-Arnel Toga gas chromatography system for the analysis of transformer oil fault gases using headspace sampling.

Having served the power industry for years, the Toga (transformer oil and gas analyser) has now been integrated with PerkinElmer's TurboMatrix headspace sampler, permitting complete automation for transformer fault gas analysis.

PerkinElmer unveiled a new gas chromatography (GC) system featuring the TurboMatrix headspace (HS) trap for the analysis of off-flavour components in beer.

Previously, electron capture detection (ECD) had been the industry choice for low-ppb detection of diacetyl impurities that impart off-flavour in beer.

Implementation of the TurboMatrix HS Trap concentrates the analytes for flame ionisation detection (FID), thereby eliminating the current requirement for a radioactive source on the GC and its related maintenance.

The company also announced a new remote access web-based module called Online Administrator for its Labworks ES Lims customers.

Using this new module, customers with browser-based access will now have the ability to securely view test information, results and reports in a timely fashion with the simple click of a mouse.

It announced 'significant' enhancements to its Elan line of ICP-MS instrumentation, which are developed and sold through a joint venture called PerkinElmer Sciex, a partnership between PerkinElmer and MDS Sciex.

Meanwhile, PerkinElmer and Malvern Instruments announced a collaborative sales agreement to jointly offer customers in North America a complete solution for their rheology and thermal analysis needs.

The agreement brings together best-of-breed products from both companies for customers in the increasingly important area of material characterisation.
