Screen chosen for patient system

A Planar Systems product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team May 15, 2002

Eon Media's new entertainment and information system, designed for patients' bedside use, will feature VitalScreen medical monitors from Planar Systems

Based in Quebec, Canada, Eon Media is a media delivery company specialising in providing entertainment content and systems to hospitals.

The touchscreen-enabled VitalScreen monitors will be installed in hospital rooms to provide bedside 'pay per view' entertainment and internet access for patients using credit card payment.

The medical-grade monitor features a 15-inch active matrix liquid-crystal display (AMLCD) colour screen, and is certified for patient proximity with low electromagnetic emissions and tolerance of rough handling and frequent cleanings.

Compared to traditional television sets, VitalScreen's flat-panel technology is less bulky, has a longer life, and requires less power.

"We were impressed with Planar's extensive track record with leaders in the medical equipment market, as well as Planar's experience selling medical display technologies directly to hospitals and clinics", said Eon Media president Nat Findlay: "The people at Planar clearly understand the needs of this market." Planar's experience in the medical market and the availability of its VitalScreen platform helped Eon get the new system to market quickly.

"Planar was very responsive to our needs for quick delivery", added Findlay, "and their commitment extended to providing on-site engineering support to make sure the initial installations went well.

They are an ideal partner for us.".
