Pro-Lite Technology, a specialist photonics distributor, has published a free technical guide to the selection and use of laser safety eyewear This guide, produced in association with eyewear manufacturer GPT Glendale, is available free on request, and provides the laser user and safety officer with common sense advise on selecting laser eyewear in accordance with the applicable BS EN 207 and BS EN 208 safety standards

It was published to help users and safety advisors understand the need for laser safety eyewear, define what type of eyewear is required for different types of laser and list the features to consider when selecting protective glasses.
The ratings assigned to laser safety eyewear according to the European standards are no longer based on easily understood optical density levels so the guide also explains the nomenclature now used to define the performance of laser glasses.
A member of Pro-Lite staff was involved as a technical expert in the drafting of the European Standards that define the construction, testing and use of laser safety eyewear and Pro-Lite says it is happy to offer impartial advice on the selection of appropriate eyewear in accordance with the applicable standards.
