Point Source acquired by Qioptiq
Qioptiq has entered into an agreement to acquire Point Source, a specialist producer of fibre optic laser delivery systems and lasers
Point Source, based near Southampton in the UK, employs 70 people and had revenues of £12 million (US$22m approx) in 2007 It specialises in fibre optic laser delivery systems and lasers for commercial applications in biotechnology and semiconductor manufacturing

Qioptiq CEO Benoit Bazire, commenting on the acquisition, said: "As a group we have an existing small laser capability, yet it is an important part of the whole photonics arena.

The acquisition of Point Source follows on from the successful acquisition of Linos by Qioptiq at end of 2006.
Point Source will become part of Qioptiq's optical systems division, headed by group VP Volker Brockmeyer.
The division focuses on advanced optical systems for the strong growth markets of IT and communications, healthcare and life sciences industrial manufacturing and microptics.
