Luciferase reaction has an extended half-life of over five hours giving great flexibility when carrying out luminescence measurements
The range of applications covered by GloMax is broad and extends from reporter gene assays, RNAi, cell viability and apoptosis, detection of proteases/kinases right through to detection of cytochrome-P450 activity or microbial contamination for industrial quality control.
Promega was recently presented with an award by R and D Magazine for the development of the P450-Glo assay systems.
The sensitivity of this product is said to be up to one thousand times greater than predecessors and is used to measure enzymes that play a vital role in human metabolism, for detoxification of medical drugs.
Promega's Ultra-Glo enzyme lies at the heart of the assay technology.
Ultra-Glo is a highly robust, thermostable recombinant luciferase which generates a glow-type luminescent signal.
These unique properties improve sensitivity and reliability across a wide range of assay conditions: "Due to the very low inherent background and protection of the photon emitter afforded by the enzyme, bioluminescent assays often outperform the analogous fluorescent assays in a broad range of applications" says Keith Wood, director, imaging and reporter technology at Promega.
Exclusive to Promega, Ultra-Glo represents a quantum leap in bioluminometry and is incorporated in the complete range of homogenous bioluminescent assays.
The novel properties of GloMax technology enable multiplexing of several assay parameters in a single sample to capture more than one data set per well, thereby generating significant cost savings.
There are 1900 species of glowworm and firefly worldwide, and by harnessing the light of insects, Promega says it has enhanced the power of nature to provide this highly sensitive detection methodology which has become the method of choice for many key research areas.
