Through continuous development and refinement of its core pressure sensor technology, Presens has created a sensor with characteristics that enable countless new possibilities in pressure measurement

The Norwegian pressure sensor company Presens announces the launch of its new Precise pressure sensor With a guaranteed total error band (all possible errors) of <+/-0.01%FS, high resolution and an inherent tolerance to over-pressure and pressure spikes, the Precise sensor offers a level of performance unequalled by any other pressure sensor

Since its first commercial installation in 1998, Presens says it has worked towards achieving its goal of developing the world's best pressure sensor.

"The challenge has been to combine mathematics, mechanics and electronics in a way that optimizes the attributes of the technology", states Presens's chief technical officer, Bjorn Erik Seeberg.

"Throughout the development process, our goal has been to achieve a total error band of <+/-0.01%FS.

"To be on the safe side, we worked with several different solutions, therefore development has taken longer than we originally planned.

"Now that the Precise sensor is launched, we are absolutely certain that the product delivers as promised".

Petter Eide, product manager of Precise, agrees:"Precise has been tested by several independent institutions, and they all agree that it is accurate to within +/-0.01%FS.

"Combined with its tolerance to noise, vibration, over-pressure and pressure spikes, we are certain that we have developed a unique product that fills a large void in the market.

"Although we have completed development of Precise, we will not rest on our laurels.

"The knowledge and experience gained in developing Precise will be used to generate new development.

"For example, we now know that +/-0.005%FS is within reach.

"If we can additionally increase both the pressure area and speed of the sensor, we will be entering exciting, unchartered territory".

At the heart of the Precise sensor is the company's proprietary patented technology.

In comparison to conventional silicon pressure sensors that use diaphragms with a piezoresistive resistor bridge to measure stress, Presens pressure sensors measure pressure-induced compressive stress with a piezoresistive Wheatstone bridge integrated in a tubular silicon structure.

The mechanical design of the sensing element makes it possible to develop extremely robust and sensitive sensor solutions, which is the key to operational benefits for the user.
