Speciation workshop in Ft Lauderdale
Pre-conference workshop, 'Arsenic, mercury and selenium speciation with atomic fluorescence spectroscopy', for all those attending the Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry
PS Analytical (PSA) is arranging a pre-conference workshop, 'Arsenic, mercury and selenium speciation with atomic fluorescence spectroscopy', for all those attending the Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry, which is due to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, in January 2004 The workshop will introduce atomic fluorescence spectroscopy (AFS) as a very sensitive technique for the speciation of mercury (Hg), arsenic (As) and selenium (Se)

Dangers of arsenic in drinking water
Californian 'Public Health Goal' of 4ppt arsenic in drinking waters is welcomed by manufacturer of spectrometry system with claimed detection limit of just 2ppt
Coupled to vapour and hydride generation, AFS has provided very low detection limits and accurate measurements for a wide range of sample matrices, and, when coupled to gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), it offers cost-effective speciation of Hg, As and Se.
Yong Cai of Florida International University (FIU) will present the workshop in association with Warren Corns and Derek Bryce of PSA.
It will include an optional practical session at FIU, where participants will obtain 'hands on' experience of capillary GC-AFS for Hg speciation and HPLC-hydride generation-AFS for As and Se speciation.
To register free of charge for the workshop on January 4, including the morning seminar at Wyndham Bonaventure Resort and Spa and the afternoon practical session at FIU, those interested are invited to contact Paul Stockwell at PSA.
